Compile ConTeXt online without installing TeX Live.
Create a project, choose ConTeXt as its language, and Texeno compiles it with ConTeXt LMTX on TeX Live 2026. You get click-to-source navigation, autocomplete, real-time collaboration, and version history in the browser.
The short answer: create a project, choose ConTeXt, and write your document between \starttext and \stoptext. Texeno builds it with LMTX, with nothing to install.
Compile ConTeXt online in four steps
Nothing to install: no TeX Live and no LuaMetaTeX on your computer.
Create a ConTeXt project
On the projects page, start a new project and choose ConTeXt as its language. The language is set when the project is created.
Use the main file
A new ConTeXt project starts with a
main.tex. The main file can also end in .mkxl, .mkiv or .mkvi.Write between the start and stop
Setups such as
\setupbodyfontgo before\starttext. Your text, sections and formulas go between\starttextand\stoptext.
A minimal ConTeXt LMTX document
ConTeXt takes options in square brackets and content in braces. Paste this into your main file to check that everything works.
A section, inline math and a formula
\startsectionstarts a numbered section, and\startformulasets a displayed formula.\setupbodyfont[modern,11pt] \starttext \startsection[title={Introduction}] ConTeXt LMTX typesets this page in the browser. Inline math goes between dollar signs: $E = mc^2$. \startformula \int_0^1 x^2 \, dx = \frac{1}{3} \stopformula \stopsection \stoptext
ConTeXt LMTX and TeX Live versions
Texeno compiles ConTeXt projects with ConTeXt LMTX on TeX Live 2026. LaTeX projects can choose a TeX Live year (2026, 2025, 2023 and 2020), but ConTeXt projects always use the newest one.
MkIV is not offered. Test an MkIV document under LMTX first; one that strictly needs MkIV has to be built elsewhere.
Editor features for ConTeXt
Errors in plain words
When a build fails, Texeno explains the error in plain words and jumps to the line, so you don't have to read the raw log.
Click to source
Click the PDF preview to jump to the source line behind it, and go from the source back to the PDF.
Command autocomplete
Typing a backslash suggests commands from ConTeXt's own command list.
Collaboration and sync
Invite co-authors with no collaborator cap on any plan, and use comments, project chat and version history as in a LaTeX project. GitHub sync is on Free, Scholar, and Lab; Dropbox, Google Drive, GitLab and Git sync on Scholar and Lab.
Import a project, and what you get out
To bring an existing ConTeXt project over, upload its folder as a .zip. Texeno recognises ConTeXt sources and picks the main file.
Output is PDF only. Word and Markdown export work for Typst projects, not for ConTeXt.
For commands and options, the ConTeXt wiki is the reference.
Questions
Does Texeno support ConTeXt MkIV?
No. Texeno runs ConTeXt LMTX on TeX Live 2026 only. Test an MkIV document under LMTX first; one that strictly needs MkIV has to be built elsewhere.
Can I compile ConTeXt on an older TeX Live?
No. ConTeXt runs on TeX Live 2026 only. The older TeX Live years are offered for LaTeX projects.
What file extensions does a ConTeXt project use?
The main file can end in .tex, .mkxl, .mkiv or .mkvi. Whatever the ending, it is compiled with LMTX.
